As we approach the "demographic cliff" (also called the "enrollment cliff") of 2025, colleges and universities around the country - including Wisconsin - are strategically working to retain students through graduation. This is the goal of the Lumina Foundation's nationwide 60 Forward initiative, which continues to guide our efforts in Wisconsin - to grant degrees, certificates, and other credentials to at least 60 percent of high school graduates by 2027. To support this goal, we are designing professional development programs in equity-minded teaching and learning for Wisconsin educators in all post-secondary colleges and universities.

Equity in the College Classroom: Educating Ourselves as Educators is a statewide professional development conference for faculty and instructors, produced collaboratively by Wisconsin's systems of higher education. The first Equity in the College Classroom conference was held in December, 2019, at five locations around the state: Madison Area Technical College, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, St. Norbert College in De Pere, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Connected by live-streaming, participants engaged in interactive workshops facilitated by Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings and Running Horse Livingston, and communicated with colleagues from neighboring institutions. Faculty and instructors, regardless of independent, public, or technical college affiliation, shared goals of inclusive teaching, learning, and student success.
