Landscape Ethics, Photography, and Contextual Design

Pennsylvania-based consultant, author and photographer Rick Darke’s work is grounded in an observational ethic which blends ecology, horticulture and cultural geography in the design and stewardship of dynamic living landscapes. His collaborative projects include parks, post-industrial sites, transportation corridors, conservation developments, botanic gardens and residential landscapes. Jennifer Jewell

Writer and Host, Cultivating Place

Jennifer hosts Cultivating Place: Conversations on Natural History and the Human Impulse to Garden, a weekly public radio program & podcast. She explores how and why we garden and what we mean when we garden.

Barbara was instrumental in leading the Landscape Performance Series strategic research initiative with the Landscape Architecture Foundation. She has worked on re-greening cities from Hong Kong to Washington, DC.

 

Mickey Fearn

Professor of the Practice, NC State University

Mickey is Professor of the Practice with the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at NC State University. He will help us examine the historic influence of black communities on our landscapes and offer contemporary context.


Ava Bynum

Founder, Omnymyst

Ava is a passionate systems thinker with experience in education, food systems, community organizing, development, and non profit management. She served as the Founder and Executive Director of Hudson Valley Seed.


Kate Kennen

Owner, OffShoots: Productive Landscapes

Kate's landscape architecture practice focuses on productive planting and ecological planning. Her current research and teaching concentrates on planting design and applied phytotechnologies that utilize plants to clean up contaminated sites.


Rebecca McMackin

Director of Horticulture, Brooklyn Bridge Park

Rebecca ecologically manages the flora and fauna of 85 acres of parkland habitat consisting of native woodlands, freshwater wetlands, salt marshes, and ornamental gardens.
