Summer Music Clinic
Senior Session

June 28 - July 4, 2026

For students completing grades 9-12

A $75 non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of registration. All program fee payments are due by June 1, 2026.

If there are multiple students from the same family participating, please complete one registration for EACH student.

During this energizing week, you will have the opportunity to enrich your understanding, refine your technique alongside other talented young musicians, as our accomplished instructors guide you to new levels of skill through individualized mentorship to transform artistry. 

Our institute combines individualized learning with ensemble learning to help you maximize your musical learning and experience. Your institute experience includes:

• Master classes

• Private lessons with accomplished teachers

• Chamber music 

• Faculty and Student recitals

• Orchestra 

• End-of-session final performances

• Unique opportunity to also choose Summer Music Clinic electives tailored to your other musical interests

• Be part of the community, campus experience, and social experience of the large Summer Music Clinic population

• Learn about post-secondary music study and career opportunities 

Application Process - Deadline April 1, 2026 

1. Register for Summer Music Clinic Violin Institute 

2. Submit a recorded application for admission to smc@wisc.edu

Audition Requirements: 

Please submit video recordings of the following (piano accompaniment is strongly encouraged). Please arrange the video so that the fingers and bow of the violinist are visible. 

• One movement of a violin concerto

• One three-octave scale (student's choice) with arpeggio

Applications will be evaluated by Summer Music Clinic and students will be notified of acceptance with audition feedback.

HOW TO APPLY FOR SUMMER MUSIC CLINIC SCHOLARSHIPS

For Students Who Qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch in Wisconsin

Step 1: Register for SMC. 

• Please contact SMC at smc@wisc.edu if the $75 application fee is a concern.

Step 2: Complete the Badger Precollege Scholarship Application Form.

• You may qualify for a full scholarship. Please be sure to complete both sections of the form and have an authorized representative from your student’s school (counselor or administrator) complete and sign Section 2.

Step 3: Submit the completed application to SMC by April 1.

Step 4: Complete a Scholarship Acceptance survey upon receiving your award letter from SMC in April.

For Students Who DO NOT Qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch in Wisconsin

Step 1: Register for SMC.

• Confirm that you DO NOT qualify for free and reduced lunch status during the registration process.

Step 2: Submit the FIRST PAGE of your most recently completed U.S. 1040 Tax Form to SMC by April 1.

• Please note:

  • PLEASE REDACT SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS before submitting.

  • We specifically require Line 11 (Adjusted Gross Income) to be visible on the form.

  • You may qualify for a full or partial scholarship. If extenuating circumstances (i.e. loans, loss of employment, medical expenses) are not reflected on your tax return but are affecting your family’s finances, please also submit your financial need story along with the 1040 Tax Form.

Step 3: Complete a Scholarship Acceptance survey upon receiving your award letter from SMC in April

Aid is determined by analyzing family income and economic circumstances according to the Income Eligibility Guidelines used by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s School Lunch Program.
